Our Vision & Mission
What We're Working Toward
A Burundi where all children have an equitable, inclusive and relevant quality education, regardless of their geographical location and socio-economic background.
How We Get There
Empower Leaders, Transform Communities, and address educational inequalities for an enhanced quality education.
Alumni Vision
The Heart of LEAD for Burundi
Our alumni are the heart of LEAD for Burundi, driving transformative change in education. They embody leadership, entrepreneurship, and policy influence, inspiring others to join them in making a lasting impact within and beyond the education system.
We are dedicated to empowering our alumni by providing the necessary support and opportunities for their success. Together, we shape the future of education, creating a brighter tomorrow for generations to come.
Six Pillars of Alumni Empowerment
Everything we do to ensure our alumni continue to grow, lead, and transform.
Training & Mentorship

Convenings & Networking
A supportive community of changemakers. Through events and convenings, alumni collaborate, share ideas, and foster lifelong learning.
Alumni Impact Projects
We encourage alumni to lead impactful projects — providing seed funding, mentorship, and networking opportunities to make them a reality.
Advocacy & Policy
We equip alumni with the skills and platforms to advocate for policy change and engage directly with policymakers at every level.
Lifelong Learning Platform
Full access to TFAL's online platform — webinars, courses, and resources tailored to alumni needs, with international exposure and global education insights.
Community Outreach
We encourage alumni to give back through volunteering and supporting local schools — staying rooted in the communities that shaped them.
Student Vision
What We Envision for Every Student
At LEAD for Burundi, we envision a future where every child in Burundi receives an equitable, inclusive and relevant quality education, regardless of where they live or their economic status. We are committed to empowering leaders, transforming communities, and addressing educational inequalities for enhanced quality education, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Five Measurable Goals
Specific, actionable targets that guide everything we do for Burundi's students.
Literacy & Numeracy
Increase literacy and numeracy rates by 5% every year among primary learners in underserved communities — aligned with SDG Target 4.6.
Academic Performance
Improve performance by 20% in Math, Science and French among École Fondamental learners through innovative teaching methodologies.
Holistic Education
Encourage partner schools to prioritize at least two non-academic skills — problem-solving, critical thinking, leadership, communication — every year.
Community Engagement
Enhance community development indicators — parental involvement, learner engagement — by 25% within 6 years.
Teacher Development
Train and empower 100 local teachers annually with professional development workshops — fostering a culture of lifelong learning and leadership.
The Leader Every Child Will Become
By the time learners complete their schooling with LEAD's support, they will emerge as selfless, respected, responsible and exemplary leaders — equipped with the skills for success in life, capable of driving innovative change and contributing to Burundi's development, both locally and globally.
