How We're Changing the System
Transforming Burundi's education system through collective leadership and systemic Change
The education system in Burundi faces numerous challenges, including a shortage of qualified teachers, high dropout rates, and inadequate learning materials. These challenges are deeply rooted in socio-economic factors, prevailing ideologies, and systemic issues. Despite numerous reform efforts, the educational system remains broken, requiring a multifaceted approach-collective leadership and technical reform fixes for a systemic change.
Through the alumni association, we hope to inspire these fellows to find solutions to the challenges they will have identified in their served communities and if need be help them create support systems for their projects.
After the Summer Intensive training program, teacher-leaders will be placed in highest-need schools as teachers and will receive ongoing support from LFB local coaches.
Fellows undergo an intensive 5-6 week training program, focusing both on modern and holistic pedagogical methodologies and leadership skills.
LEAD for Burundi rigorously recruits and selects talented graduates from top universities, who share our vision, to lead this movement by teaching for two years in the country's highest-need schools.
